In a city which lives and breathes power, no one has explored the politics of power with such steely intelligence and analytical focus as eX de Medici. Seducing us with her stunning technical virtuosity, her work on closer examination is shocking and confronting.  We are caught in a bewildering web of attraction and repulsion, beauty and horror. Her work insists that we are always implicated in evil – and that protesting our innocence is a hypocritical evasion.

This exhibition, curated by Dr Jenny McFarlane, lays bare the artist’s forensic examination of contemporary society. We encounter eX de Medici at her most uncompromising, with major works brought together from important public and private collections for the first time, including recent monumental watercolours inspired by her visits to Iran.

This major survey exhibition is one of the Drill Hall Gallery’s contributions to the Centenary of Canberra celebrations in 2013.  This exhibition has been supported by ArtsACT.
