Fabrications covers thirty years of art-making by Sydney-based artist Nicole Ellis. It surveys her rich and complex involvement with collage, assemblage and found materials. Fastidiously selected textiles comprise the âpalettesâ and provide tones and textures that she moulds into consistently beautiful, poised, luminous compositions.
Ellisâ recent works dwell on embodiment as a phenomenon of representation – or to be more accurate, in her case, as a phenomenon of âre/presentationâ – and in so doing they conduct an extended meditation on the history of painting, representational and non-objective, classical and modern.
Nicole Ellis: Fabrications is curated by Tony Oates
