Helen Fuller has had an extensive career as a painter, sculptor and installation artist. She recently emerged as one of Australia’s most strikingly original ceramic artists, winning the 2010 South Australia Ceramics Award. Her hand-built terracotta vessels are rudimentary coil pots coaxed into eccentric shapes. A patchwork of solid colours and jazzy patterns is applied in slip and underglaze, giving each form a vividly sculptural character. The decorative qualities of Cycladic, Islamic and Aboriginal art and the still-life objects painted by Ben Nicholson, Pablo Picasso and Margaret Preston are among the multitude of inspirations that converge in these wonderfully surprising inventions.

This will be the first solo exhibition of Helen Fuller’s ceramic works held outside of South Australia.
