You are invited to  a panel discussion organized by the ANU Centre for Law, Art and the Humanities in collaboration with Incommensurable, ANU Drill Hall Gallery’s current exhibition.

Incommensurability is a key concept across much of the humanities and speaks to the impossibility of measuring or calculating amongst different kinds of problems, goods, or suffering. But what does it really mean to speak of incommensurability and why does it matter?

At 12:00 Friday April 6, in the main exhibition space of Drill Hall, Centre members will discuss these questions in light of the artworks around them, inviting a new dialogue between the art gallery and the academic community. We ask whether art – law – and philosophy – are themselves incommensurable discourses. And if not, how can they speak to and learn from each other?

Panellists include
Professor Desmond Manderson, ANU College of Law / College of Arts and Social Sciences, and Director of the Centre for Law, Arts and the Humanities
Dr Dorota Gozdecka, ANU College of Law and Associate Director
Associate Professor Fiona Jenkins, School of Philosophy, CASS
Associate Professor Robyn Ferrell, who holds adjunct positions with the University of Sydney, UTS, and is now based at CLAH

WHEN: Friday 23 March, 12:00 – 1:00 PM
WHERE: Drill Hall Gallery, Kingsley Street, ANU
