The world is not a foreign land takes the notions of collaboration, dialogue and influence as its departure point. It involves Indigenous Australian artists who work within the localised histories of widely separated areas of ‘remote’ Australia: the Tiwi Islands, the Kimberley and Eastern Arnhem Land. Their work stakes a claim for renewal and change by making a feature of artistic relationships previously unrepresented, bridging ‘untraditional’ media and eclectic traditions.

The world is not a foreign land includes work by Timothy Cook, Djambawa Marawili, Ngarra, Rusty Peters, Freda Warlapinni and Nyapanyapa Yunupingu, revealing productive and meaningful interactions, a network of connections extending and surpassing commonplace ideas about the scope and competencies of indigenous art. Curated by Quentin Sprague, this is an Ian Potter Museum of Art and NETS Victoria touring exhibition.
